A door left open
Welcome. Think of this studio less as a room with an address and more as a way of looking. There is a table with enough space for a page, a pencil, perhaps a cup of tea, and the good sort of quiet. You do not need to arrive with a plan. You only need to begin noticing.
The pleasure of a beginning
A blank or partly finished page can feel like a demand. I prefer to think of it as an invitation. The first color need not be the correct one; it only needs to be a color you want to see. Once it is there, the next choice becomes easier. A little confidence accumulates through the act of making, not before it.
What you will find here
These notes will wander through botanical shapes, old glass, useful materials, unexpected palettes, and small rituals that make creative time feel like a gift. Some entries are practical. Others are simply observations worth carrying back to your own table. The point is never to make my version of a picture. It is to help you find yours.
An invitation
Look at a leaf until you notice its edges. Try a color you would normally leave in the box. Let one corner of the page remain pale. If you want, return tomorrow and change your mind. The work can hold all of those choices. This is where we begin: with beautiful worlds deliberately unfinished, waiting for you to complete them.
